In Sunny California

What a trip we had! We got up on the 5th and looked at the weather forcast and it was all doom and gloom for the next 10 days. They said there might be a break here and there so we decided to go to the coast. We went back to Roseburg (20 miles) and headed to the coast. It poured rain the whole way. We drove down the coast to Brookings near the California border where we spent the night in a state park right on the ocean. The waves were massive. Some were at least 30 ft high. It was really impressive. Friends of Gary and Carolyn were staying in this park and we had a good visit and dinner with them. Helen is a great cook and she made dinner for us. It was really nice to see her and Ken again.

The next day we drove to Willetts CA on the coast road and then over to I5. The rain finally stopped by lunch time. We had a little snow as we crossed the higher points to get to I5 but it didn't stick as the temperature was above freezing. We spent the night in the parking lot of Bill and Kathy's Restaurant in Dunnigan CA. It was closed which we found strange until we heard that there was no power to a million people in the area. That is why it was so dark there. HA!

On the 7th we drove as far as Bakersfield where we stayed in a Walmart. Boy was it busy there. There must have been at least 25 rigs parked there. On the way into Walmart a plastic bucket rolled in front of us and we drove over it. It got wedged in our front driver's wheel well. Fortunately the only damage was the radiator for our generator. It cracked a connection and the fluid all ran out. We will fix it when we get to Florida.

Finally on the 8th we arrived in Hemet CA where we are staying for a week. It is getting warmer every day and has very warm pools and hot tubs (3 of each). We got our rigs cleaned yesterday. About 3 o'clock we got visitors, Tim and Greg, another Bluebird couple who live about 20 miles down the road. We sat outside and had a great chat. We hope they are coming for dinner on Saturday.

Well that is all the news for now. Your next post will be from Yuma where we head to next week. Til then.....
